The Nation’s Only Latino Children’s Theatre, announces its 2013-14 SEAson!
Teatro SEA “The Latino Children’s Theater,” the award-winning Latino theatre company for young audiences (CEO & Artistic Director, Dr. Manuel A. Morán), proudly invites you to our 2013-2014 SEASON, presenting the best in Latino/bilingual entertainment for the whole family.
Our children need HEROES! That is why SEA’s season 2013-2014 is dedicated to some of our Latin American HEROES. Join Teatro SEA at our BEAUTIFUL THEATRE in an exciting season: where kids can experience the superpower of CULTURA!
This Super season is filled with our repertory of children’s classics, including the Tango-dancing Cinderella/Cenicienta, the super curious Goldilocks in Ricitos and the 3 Bears/Ricitos y los 3 Ositos and ¡Viva Pinocho!/A Mexican Pinocchio, a retelling of the classic children’s tale Pinocchio, now focusing on the issue of immigration.
This year’s season also includes our most celebrated Latin American stories: La Cucarachita Martina/Martina, the Little Roach, a Cuban and Puerto Rican tale, the always popular Puerto Rican and Dominican story of El Encuentro de Juan Bobo y Pedro Animal/The Encountert, indigenous tales from Mexico, Guatemala, Perú and Puerto Rico in Las Leyendas del Cofre Encantado/Legends of the Enchanted Treasure, La Plenópera del Empache/The Belly Ache Opera, a Puerto Rican children’s theatre classic by Leopoldo Santiago Lavandero including Puerto Rican plena and the Spanish Classics. Our most acclaimed Zarzuela La Muela del Rey Farfán/The Toothache of King Farfán and Los Títeres de Cachiporra/The Billy-Club Puppets, García Lorca’s folkloric Andalusian Punch and Judy style story in which the bully, club-wielding Cristóbal takes a sweet young woman, Rosita, as an unwilling bride.
New from Teatro SEA (producers of the Off Broadway, 14 time award-winning bilingual musical about the legendary Puerto Rican baseball player and humanitarian, Roberto Clemente, DC-7: The Roberto Clemente Story), comes the bilingual musical for children MY SUPERHERO, ROBERTO CLEMENTE. This story is sure to delight all audiences through the journey of four kids, who together discover the powers of this Superhero.
Also new this season, Teatro SEA is bringing back the “Story Hour with Pura Belpré,” a re-enactment of her legendary “Bilingual Story Hour,” giving a new generation of children the opportunity to be a part of this cultural, creative and interactive experience that combines storytelling with puppets. Audiences of all ages will be engaged from beginning to end, as Ms. Pura Belpré acts out her famous tales including: Pérez & Martina, Juan Bobo, The Three Magi, and many more.
Teatro SEA’s adult series will bring back RAFAEL HERNANDEZ…ROMANCE, the award winning Romantic Musical Revue about the life, career and music of one of the greatest Latin America composers of all time, Rafael Hernández and our award-winning musical revue of some of the most romantic songs from Latin America’s greatest Trios, including Los Panchos, Los Condes and El Trío Vegabajeño, A 3 Voces.
