This season Teatro Experimental Blue Amigos’ (TEBA) “Cervantes in English” program will be presenting a classic piece from their repertoire; “A Solid home” by Elena Garro, translated from

Spanish by Eroilda Rodriguez. The play had its first run back in 2001 under the adaptation and direction of Hector Luis Rivera. Aside from the director, Kathy Tejada is the only original cast member to take part in this revamped version of the play. The cast also includes Yanet Betances, AB Lugo, Alex Manzano, Dennis Maragliano, J. Edgar Mozoub, Jennifer Quinn and Maria Richardson.

“A Solid Home” was written by the prominent Mexican writer Elena Garro (1916-1998) in 1958. In this piece Garro continues the pattern that characterized all her literary work, the duality between reality and fiction. In this story family members are all buried in the same crypt, where they contemplate life and death and the purpose of their existence. Their description of existence is surprising and even humorous at times but always very conscious. This work of dark humor will make us question and reflect on our own existence, with its philosophical and humorous touches. As it is of Mexican and Latin American tradition to celebrate death as much as life.

“Cervantes in English” program was designed to offer in English, the best experimental works from the Spanish and Latin American literature. In order to spark an interest in the Latino community that speaks English as well as English-speaking community in general with the purpose of spreading the richness from our literature.
